Today we are going to speak to one of the most important and foundational teachings from Tad James’s teachings in neuro-linguistic programming known as ‘perception is projection.’ What ‘perception is projection’ means is that anything that is inside of us on the emotional level is that which we will experience outside of us. Going deeper that means that anyone whom you feel is creating ill feelings inside you is a direct projection of that feeling which is indeed inside of you.

Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, Carl Jung called this notion of that which we perceive in others which is indeed located in our own unconscious self ‘the shadow self.’ He explained the fact that the people with whom we associate the most, our partners in life and in business play an important part in our ability to grow as they behave in the same manner that is our ‘shadow self.’

It is when we acknowledge that the behavior of others with whom we are close were placed there to help us to identify that part of us that needs to be healed, that we are able to work on that healing of our self. In so doing, we are able to notice that the world without, meaning the world outside of us changes in the most miraculous of ways, with the healing of our inner self allowing us to reflect happier and more fulfilling perceptions of others from the outside world.

Learning: “Perception is projection” is the concept of that which is inside us is going to be perceived in the world around us. If we are feeling unhappy in our lives it is because we need to pay attention to those perceptions that we are projecting out in the world and heal them. In so doing we will be able to live much happier and fulfilled as the projections that are being perceived are healthier and therefore more functional improving our quality of life.
