It’s Time To Show Yourself Some Love: Get In Touch With Your Heart’s Desires

Today we are going to go back to look deep inside ourselves to figure out what we need to do to love ourselves. Unfortunately, many people are under the impression that to be loved they must follow another’s instructions in terms of how they live their own lives. Let me tell you something that may be a mind opener, or better yet a heart opener for you: You were not put here on this earth to lead someone else’s life, to fulfill someone else’s unfulfilled desires, or to have someone live through your accomplishments. You were put here on earth to be your best self doing that which you feel a desire to do with your own life.

How do you know what is your deepest desire? You get in touch with your heart and ask it what it is that nourishes you the most in your life — those activities that bring you fulfillment and contentment. Then you do whatever you need to do to make those the center of your life. It is an easy thing to do really, however, most people have been cut off from their heart’s desires by the over intellectualization of our world believing that one needs to do the ‘normal’ things in life to be happy. Yet, when you truly observe those who have followed the societal norms, how many of these people are actually happy, contented, and healthy people? There is more depression and anxiety these days, even before all the COVID issues came upon us than ever before. One needs to ask why this may be true. I do believe the lousy US diet and lack of physical activity have a lot to do with it. However, I also know that too many people are spending too much of their precious life’s hours doing things they do not enjoy with people that they do not enjoy being with.

I know for myself, for the 1st 25 or so years of my life I bought into the notion that money was the be-all and end-all to everything. And, I can tell you that having money is better than not having it — and yet, money wasn’t the thing that made a difference in my life — not really. What made a difference in my life was making a difference with what I spent my time doing — that is what mattered and still matters more to me than anything else that I do — even my travels which I dearly love- knowing that a teen client of mine in 2005 has grown up to be self-employed, happy and in a healthy relationship bringing his whole family together with his healing all these years later is what my life is really all about. One person at a time in some cases — which is actually a family at a time in reality. This client’s mom just celebrated her wedding anniversary and I sent her and her amazing husband some good wishes to an amazing couple knowing full well what they were dealing with when I met them. And, her response was a humble “Thanks for your gracious help.”

First thing in the morning upon waking up while your space is quiet, take a few moments to do a bit of diaphragmatic breathing — with your hand on your stomach so you can feel the rise of your diaphragm as you breathe in. Exhale slowly. Do this for a few cycles till you are feeling relaxed all over.

Next, put your hand on your heart and go into your heart and ask it what it really needs to be happy and contented. Give it as much time as needed for the information to come in. It will only take a few minutes at most.

Commit to putting your time and energy into those things that your heart has told you matter for yourself. Because the reality is that your life is made up of how you spend your time. So best to do those things that bring you joy, contentment, and fulfillment instead of worrying about what everyone else has to advise you based on recognizing that most of those well-meaning folks haven’t a clue in how to live their own true lives.

Learning: We all have a heart’s desire of what we are to do with our lives while we are on planet earth. It is time for you to get in touch with yours so that you can give yourself the nourishment that you need for a healthy, contented, fulfilled life.
